  4. Q4.Case Study

The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has quickly spread to various countries. As on 8 May 2020, India had reported 56342 positive cases. India, with a population of more than 1.35 billion, had difficulty controlling transmission, necessitating multiple strategies. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare raised awareness and took necessary actions; the government implemented a 55-day nationwide lockdown to reduce transmission. Schools and colleges shifted to alternative teaching-learning-evaluation-certification, and online mode became popular. India was not prepared for a sudden onslaught due to limited infrastructure in human resources, money and facilities. The disease did not spare anybody irrespective of caste, creed, religion, or 'have and have not'. Deficiencies in hospital beds, oxygen cylinders, ambulances, hospital staff and crematorium were most crucial. You are a hospital administrator in a public hospital at the time when coronavirus had attacked a large number of people and patients were pouring in day in and day out. (a) What are your criteria and justification for putting your clinical and non-clinical staff to attend to the patients, knowing fully well that it is a highly infectious disease and resources and infrastructure are limited? (b) If yours is a private hospital, would your justification and decision remain the same as that of a public hospital?

It badly affected his personal and family life—he was no longer joyous, happy and contented, and without any reason would lose his temper with his wife and family members. The family environment was no longer pleasant; his supportive wife also became a victim of his negativity and hostile behaviour. Comfort and happiness virtually vanished from his life, damaging his physical and mental health. (a) What are the options available with Pawan to cope with the situation? (b) What approach should Pawan adopt for bringing peace, tranquillity and a congenial environment in the office and home?
