What is UPSC?

The Full form of UPSC is Union Public Service Commission. One of the most competitive and prestigious exams, civil services, is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), India’s major regulating body. UPSC also conducts several competitive exams to fill in various civil service vacancies for the government of India. The UPSC conducts the Civil Services Examination (CSE), popularly known as IAS (Indian Administrative Service) exam. It is conducted in two phases namely- UPSC Prelims and UPSC Mains. The prelims exam comprises objective-type questions, while the questions asked in the mains need descriptive and essay-type answering. The UPSC is responsible for conducting various examinations for the post like IAS, IPS, IFS, etc.

IAS Exam Pattern for Personality Test

  1. All candidates who secured the cut-off marks of the Mains examination will proceed toward the Personality Test.
  2. This would include the Psychometric Test, Assessment Test as well as Personal Interview.
  3. The objective of the interview is to assess the personal suitability of the candidate for a career in public service by a Board of competent and unbiased observers. The candidate will be asked questions on matters of general interest.
  4. The test is intended to judge the mental caliber of a candidate.
  5. In broad terms, this is an assessment of not only the candidate’s intellectual qualities but also his social traits and his interest in current affairs.

UPSC Exam Pattern 2022 For Prelims, Mains & Interview

UPSC Exam Pattern 2021 consisted of three stages- Prelims, Mains, and Interview. The same is expected for UPSC Exam Pattern 2022. UPSC Exam, also known as IAS Exam, is conducted by the Union

Public Service Commission (UPSC) to recruit suitable candidates for IAS, IPS, IFS, and other allied services. UPSC Civil Services Exam is conducted to assess the overall capabilities of candidates. This article details the UPSC Exam Pattern for prelims, mains, and interviews. It is crucial to have a comprehensive understanding of the UPSC Exam Pattern. Broadly, UPSC conducts the Civil Service Examination in three phases namely: Preliminary Examination, Main Examination, and Personality Test (Interview).

UPSC Exam Pattern 2022 For IAS Main Examination

The UPSC Exam Pattern for the Mains Exam is tabulated below. The IAS Mains Exam consists of two types of papers viz qualifying and merit-ranking. Paper A and Paper B namely the Language paper and English paper will be qualifying in nature. The marks obtained in these papers will not be added to marks that may determine your rank. All the other papers will be evaluated for merit purposes.

EXAM LIMITS

General category people can attempt max 6 times, OBC category people can attempt max 9 times, SC/ST category no limit to attempt, physically handicapped (both General and OBC category) can attempt 9 times, SC/ST physically handicapped can attempt any no of times.

ATTEMPT

The UPSC optional subjects play a very important role in the UPSC CS Main Examination. It consists of a total of 500 marks out of a total of 2025 marks. If you choose wisely, then these 500 marks can make a great difference in the final total marks. The definition of the best UPSC optional subject from the list of UPSC optional subjects can vary from one candidate to another based on his educational background. Most students commit the mistake of choosing optional subjects for UPSC based on toppers’ scores in that subject, or because of other factors like popularity, availability of study groups, etc.

OVERLAPPING SUBJECTS

The following UPSC Optional subjects are popular among IAS aspirants from both technical and non-technical because of the high overlap with GS or other parts of the UPSC exam:

  1. Public Administration – Highly relevant, compact syllabus, paper II (Indian Administration) has a lot of overlap with the polity and governance part in GS II.
  2. Sociology – the study of society, lots of material which can be used in GS I, Essay, and even in Ethics paper.
  3. History – relevant for prelims as well as GS I.
  4. Geography -relevant for prelims as well as GS I
  5. Political Science – relevant for prelims as well as GS II
  6. Law – relevant for prelims as well as GS II

 

MENTAL ABILITIES

Abilities as measured by tests of an individual in areas of spatial visualization, perceptual speed, number facility, verbal comprehension, word fluency, memory, inductive reasoning, and so forth, depending on the theory or test.

REASONING-PROBLEM-SOLVING
