1. Q1.Translation (Anuvad)

   Translate the following English passage into Hindi: a passage discussing whether a country can have two entirely different kinds of economy (one based on big machine and industrialization, the other on cottage industries), arguing that the big machine economy must dominate. 'Is it possible to have two entirely different kinds of economy in a country - one based on the big machine and industrialization, and the other mainly on cottage industries? ...'

   Either: Explain with examples the difference between an official (sarkari) and a semi-official (ardh-sarkari) letter. OR: Write a letter to the Municipal Commissioner (Nigamayukt) requesting proper sanitation arrangements in your area.

3. Q3.Precis (Sankshepan)

   Write a precis of the following passage in one-third of its words. The passage discusses beauty (saundarya) as something not external but internal to the mind, drawing an analogy between heroism and beauty, and arguing that the distinction between inner and outer is meaningless. 4. Q4.Comprehension / Explanation (Vyakhya)

   Explain in simple Hindi. (क) Explain a doha about judging a saint by knowledge not caste (5 marks) OR a poem 'कलम, आज उनकी जय बोल' (Ramdhari Singh Dinkar) about countless small lamps/martyrs who burned out without asking for love. (ख) Explain a prose passage on anger (krodh) being a mind-disorder that spreads (5 marks) OR a prose passage on neki (good deeds) — that doing good and then boasting of it turns the beneficiary into an enemy.
